Is NameJet Adding Bidders?

Written by Jason Barrett.  Posted under Domaining

This is a question that will never be answered, but it is worth asking.

Is NameJet adding bidders to auctions on domains that contain at least one bid?  I know that is a scandalous allegation, but it sure seems like very few names close with one bidder.

The other possibility would be that someone has a script that goes out and adds a bid on any name with one bidder.  If that’s true and you are reading this blog (unlikely), can I please get a copy of that script?  :)

I’ve tried adding bids early in the day, late in the day, and in between to see if I can find a time that will leave me as the lone bidder.  I’ve found that later is better, but it is still likely to attract competition as soon as a bid comes online.

I don’t mind waiting until later in the day, but there is a catch.  The catch is that when there is a legitimate bidder in the auction, the first bidder into the fray is the leading beginner when the auction starts.  First position is a position worth having, because many times bidders will not go over their initial $70 bid.  That eventually leaves the first bidder as the default winner.

What to do?  Who knows?  It is probably just that there are so many smart and observant people in this industry that it is rare to find a gem without someone else noticing the same sparkle.
