I just recently started embedding myself in the world of domaining. I have owned a small portfolio of domain names since 1998 and have done my fair share of moving in and around domaining since then. With that said, I still have not gotten as deep into the subject until here over the last couple months. I have now immersed myself in several blogs with my Google Reader. For specifics, take a look at the Domaining Blogs section on the NameBait.com homepage. I do extensive name availability research. I have developed tools to help gain an edge in this game. I ramble on about domaining in this blog [Sorry]. I spend all day long at my full-time job doing SEO and thinking of ways to leverage that knowledge for domaining.
So then what’s the problem? Well I just went about setting up an account on DNForum.com and everything went great. The problem presented itself when I received my “Welcome Email” that said I would be handcuffed in the forums until I coughed up some money. I am all for companies making money online, but I don’t agree with forums requiring payment for participation. Now in the case of DNForum there are several people buying and selling domains and such via the forums and it provides them with some income while covering costs. Fine and dandy. It looks like that place has all kinds of good discussions going on.
Here’s what I am left with. I think I am going to start a forum on NameBait.com for domainers to utilize for free. I will start it small at first and see what kind of interest it generates. Then I will just make adjustments from there. If I am wrong about the idea, then I will close the doors on that area and concede defeat. I have a feeling though that I am not alone in wanting a domaining forum where participation is free. Afterall, that is what the Internet is all about anyway isn’t it? Keep your eyes open because that baby is coming soon!
