Need Help With Two Dropped Names

Posted under Domaining

I have got the opportunity to bid on two dropped names that have been picked up by SnapNames.com.  Those names are palmspringsvacation.com and southwestvacation.com.  The current bids are $1,161 and $1,050 respectively.  I show Overture counts of 3,690 and 6,299 respectively.  I show high advertiser competition in Google for both.  Both names are in the travel industry where leads are highly valued and affiliates are always in demand.

I may up the bid on one of the two, but I don’t think I will be able to see either one of these names through to the end.  With that said, I am looking to see if anyone would be interested in partnering on these names.  Now I am not sure if that happens very often, but I figure it is worth asking.   The traffic alone is worthwhile, but with a little content development and SEO work these sites could really produce.  If anyone is interested then contact me via email (jasebud at yahoo.com).

Seth Godin Continues Discussing Domains

Posted under Domaining

I think Seth Godin may actually be on to us.  He has written his second post in as many days on the topic of domaining.  In his post, he mentions that we domainers used to buy, hold, then sell domains.  He has noticed a trend towards domainers buying, building, and holding.  You see what I mean?  He is on to us.  :)

To this end, there are still domainers who flip names, but Seth is right that several of us are taking the time to develop our properties so that we can charge more rent.  Domaining is basically the Internet’s version of Monopoly and some people have started to take notice of the game.  Now if someone would just give me Park Place and Boardwalk I would be all set.

Seth Godin Talks About Domains

Posted under Domaining

Seth Godin has written a post today about domains and has given his take on them.  It’s definitely worth a quick read.  According to Seth, he had the opportunity to buy some good domain names several years back and he let the opportunity slip past.  Haven’t we all?  I wish I had a little more money back in the day and I would own some good names today too.  Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve.  Oh, well.  At least in Seth’s case he should be able to make it on the proceeds from his books.  It seems like they have done well over the years.  ;)

Deleting Domains – October 22, 2007

Posted under Deleting Domains & Domaining

I have culled through a quick list of domains deleting today and have found a couple good ones.  I will keep my mouth shut on most of them, but here is one for those of you who are interested.  PokerSpot.com deletes today.  That is a catchy little name that could probably make someone a nice return on a flip alone.  Take that same name and SEO it a little first and you will really have something worth selling.  Then again, you may just want to keep it for yourself.

I suggest you use SnapNames.com for picking up deleting domains.  I have had more success using their drop services that any of the others.

Review of Moniker TRAFFIC Auction

Posted under Domaining

There have already been several good reviews of Moniker’s TRAFFIC auction, so I will not bother you with another regurgitation of the same thing.  In lieu of that, here are links to the summaries that are available.  Enjoy!

Domain Name Forum Under Construction

Posted under Domaining

The building phase has commenced on the new domain name forums on NameBait.com.  As of right now the forum section is up, but the actual categories and forums are still under development and close scrutiny.  I put some categories and forums in place for now because I couldn’t stand to see the place empty.

I need your help!  What categories and forums would you like to see in the new forum section?  Let’s put our heads together and set this thing up right the first time.  Please run your comments and suggestions through the comment area of this post so we can have an open dialog.  I appreciate all your help on this.  Be sure you tell a friend about what is going on over here at NameBait.com, so we can get their input too.  Thanks!

Free Domaining Forum is Coming!

Posted under Domaining

I just recently started embedding myself in the world of domaining.  I have owned a small portfolio of domain names since 1998 and have done my fair share of moving in and around domaining since then.  With that said, I still have not gotten as deep into the subject until here over the last couple months.  I have now immersed myself in several blogs with my Google Reader. For specifics, take a look at the Domaining Blogs section on the NameBait.com homepage.  I do extensive name availability research.  I have developed tools to help gain an edge in this game.  I ramble on about domaining in this blog [Sorry].  I spend all day long at my full-time job doing SEO and thinking of ways to leverage that knowledge for domaining.

Local Domain Order Up

Posted under Domaining

Here is a question for you.  If you were to buy a local-based domain name, in what order would you want the words?  Would you put the city/state before the keyword or after?  So for example, is NewYorkTaxi.com preferrable to TaxiNewYork.com?

My findings are that most domainers are putting the city qualifier before the keyword.  I see this when performing domain research and tend to see this more in the search engine results.  With that said, I still think the reverse order is pertinent and here is why.  Many people know what they are looking for and type that in first.  Then when that doesn’t return the result they want, they simply tack their physical location on the back end of their existing query or domain name.

I am in the process of running A/B tests on this scenario in order to see what is happening in the real world.  I will be sure to keep you posted.  In the meantime, what do you think?
