Google Buys Typos

Posted under Domaining

It’s no secret that typos are a nice source of traffic for many.  Apparently the braintrust at Google is aware of that important fact as well.  According to ResourceShelf, Google has registered a typo for their newly announced OpenHandSetAlliance initiative.  OpenHanSetAllance.com [missing “d”] is now a part of the Google fold.  Nice work Google!

Do you think Google sees a few typos come across their search engine every day?  Apparently so.

Google’s Doghouse

Posted under Domaining

I will sure be glad when this website gets out of Google’s doghouse (sandbox for those of you familiar with SEO).  This domain name does not exactly lend itself well to direct navigation, so I could use a little love from the engines.

Like a tiger stalking its prey, I wait ready to pounce.

Domaining Inspiration

Sahar, you inspire me.  There is always more than one way to skin a cat, but we often times forget that simple truth.  Check out this article from Mr. Sarid if you would like to see how the professionals play this game.

Domain Names Carry Weight with Google

Posted under Domaining

I know this is not breaking news for most of you, but I thought I would share it anyway.

As an SEO, I always keep an eye on search engine listings and try to gauge different factors and their affect on a website’s ranking.  With that said, I noticed that one of my parked websites has got a number four listing for its targeted keyword phrase in Google.  There is nothing on the site except what Parked.com puts there and it has already pulled down a great position in Google.

That bodes real well for those of us in the domaining world.  What would happen if I actually developed the site and SEO’d it?  :)

Blocking Domaining Ads with Google

Posted under Domaining

According to this article from Search Engine Land, Google is close to offering its publishers the opportunity to block their ads from being displayed on parked domains.

Here’s my take.

  1. Too bad these advertisers are not alerted to the conversion rates that these highly targeted and relevant domains are generating.
  2. Most advertisers are not aware of the difference between parked domains and developed websites.
  3. Many advertisers just care about volume, regardless of how they get it.  I’m not saying its right, but you’ve got to remember what kind of people are in charge of most of these marketing budgets.
  4. Many advertisers find it difficult to set up their ads, let alone toggling on and off these variable parameters.  That’s why people like me make good money in Internet marketing.  ;)

It’s too bad domainers are ahead of the game.  Keep building out those sites folks!

Deleting Domains - 11/09/2007

Posted under Deleting Domains

So what is deleting today that is worth snapping up?  In short, nothing.  It’s another slow day in the world of drops.  Tomorrow looks a little more promising, so hang in there.  Go pound the servers and see if you can find any unregistered names that are worthwhile.

Domain Name Auction - 11/08/2007

Posted under Deleting Domains

I am in on a couple [literally two] domain name auctions that close today.  Here’s what I am seeing.

  • hotbath.com - $700.00
  • newautoquotes.com - $99.00

What do you think?  Does hotbath.com with its 1,371 searches in Overture and its tilt toward the cosmetic industry warrant $700?  How about newautoquotes.com with its 434 searches in Overture and its nod toward auto sales?

Bad news.  There is not much deleting today that is worth talking about.  If you see something that I don’t, then congratulations.  It looks like another day to pan for gold in the new domain stream.

With that said, here are some notable mentions from Pool.com.

  • olympicgames360.com - It’s questionable.  Only has value every couple of years.
  • kidaccount.com - Usable for banks.  Small blip of traffic on Overture (79).
  • fineresume.com - Good site for a career counselor.

That’s it and that’s all.

Big Spend On Domains Last Night

Posted under Domaining

Ooohhhh, I had a big night last night and it felt good!  [Get your minds out of the gutter.]  I made a sizable purchase in new domain names and I am excited to get rolling.  All of these names will remain under wraps for now until I am sure that I have everything that I want.  Then I will annouce the new collection to those of you who are interested.  [That includes all one of you.  Just kidding, I really mean two.]  For those of you with power, you will just figure it out for yourself.

Now I am no Marchex, Frank Schilling, or Yun Ye, so when I say big spend I mean big for a little guy like myself.  I added 25 domains last night and am considering about 25 more.  I plan to develop the majority of the names into websites over time.  My SEO research and development has already begun.  While the sites are under development they will be parked at Parked.com and hopefully holding their own as far as traffic and earnings are concerned.

That’s all for now.  I will keep you all posted.

Deleting Domains - 11/07/2007

Posted under Deleting Domains

So what domains are deleting today that might be worthwhile?  Here’s my take on it.

  • ComedyVenue.com - I just like the name.  There is a big zero in Overture for this keyword combination.
  • EuropeVacations.net - The singular version of this keyword combo shows 7,330 in Overture.  Also note this is a .net.
  • InclusiveCruises.com - I seem to have a thing for names in the travel industry.  Here is another one and it takes aim at the hot topic of “all inclusive” travel that everyone seems to love.

That is just about it for today.  TrilogyPictures.com is available and may be worthwhile to someone who loves movies, especially Matrix, Scream, Lord of the Rings, etc.  OK, I’m done.  Get out there and get your names.  You have until about 1:00 CST to do it, so hustle!
