There have already been several good reviews of Moniker’s TRAFFIC auction, so I will not bother you with another regurgitation of the same thing. In lieu of that, here are links to the summaries that are available. Enjoy!

Frank Schilling has reported that he picked up crosswordpuzzles.com at Moniker’s TRAFFIC auction this past week for $210,000. Congrats Frank! I like that name. So are you going to change the existing site or is this a buy and hold? Of course this last question actually assumes you read this blog. I won’t be upset if you don’t. It’s brand new, so it may take a while to be found.

The building phase has commenced on the new domain name forums on NameBait.com. As of right now the forum section is up, but the actual categories and forums are still under development and close scrutiny. I put some categories and forums in place for now because I couldn’t stand to see the place empty.
I need your help! What categories and forums would you like to see in the new forum section? Let’s put our heads together and set this thing up right the first time. Please run your comments and suggestions through the comment area of this post so we can have an open dialog. I appreciate all your help on this. Be sure you tell a friend about what is going on over here at NameBait.com, so we can get their input too. Thanks!

I just recently started embedding myself in the world of domaining. I have owned a small portfolio of domain names since 1998 and have done my fair share of moving in and around domaining since then. With that said, I still have not gotten as deep into the subject until here over the last couple months. I have now immersed myself in several blogs with my Google Reader. For specifics, take a look at the Domaining Blogs section on the NameBait.com homepage. I do extensive name availability research. I have developed tools to help gain an edge in this game. I ramble on about domaining in this blog [Sorry]. I spend all day long at my full-time job doing SEO and thinking of ways to leverage that knowledge for domaining.

Here is a question for you. If you were to buy a local-based domain name, in what order would you want the words? Would you put the city/state before the keyword or after? So for example, is NewYorkTaxi.com preferrable to TaxiNewYork.com?
My findings are that most domainers are putting the city qualifier before the keyword. I see this when performing domain research and tend to see this more in the search engine results. With that said, I still think the reverse order is pertinent and here is why. Many people know what they are looking for and type that in first. Then when that doesn’t return the result they want, they simply tack their physical location on the back end of their existing query or domain name.
I am in the process of running A/B tests on this scenario in order to see what is happening in the real world. I will be sure to keep you posted. In the meantime, what do you think?

I’m hanging it up for the night, but tomorrow I will start posting what I think will be my most popular posts going forward. Essentially I will take a domain name and develop a site concept for that domain name that someone will be able to take and apply. I may also do the same thing in the reverse order. By that I mean, I will provide a concept and then give some different domain names that are available and workable for that particular concept.
Stay tuned. It should be fun!

Moniker’s Traffic East domain auction starts tomorrow (10/9/2007) and runs through Saturday (10/13/2007). There are some nice domains in the inventory and this space continues to gain more and more steam, so needless to say, I will be watching closely. For those of you who want to see the actual inventory list, it is below. You can also find the auction inventory here.

Jay over at the DomainTools Blog has notified their readers today that they have launched RegistrantSearch.com. This new tool allows users to search for domain names based on a specific registrant name. This is a very handy little tool and should provide users with some interesting information that would otherwise take a significant amount of time to gather.

NameJet.com has now taken off and is offering auction services for domains that are expiring or deleting. As many have reported, these domains come from Network Solutions and eNom. These names were auctioned at snapnames.com in the past, but Network Solutions and eNom have decided to reestablish control over their own territory. This will be a big loss for SnapNames, but what will it mean for the rest of us? Let’s hope that NameJet has their act together and that they offer the same level of service some of us have come to expect from SnapNames.
