Need Help With Two Dropped Names

Posted under Domaining

I have got the opportunity to bid on two dropped names that have been picked up by SnapNames.com.  Those names are palmspringsvacation.com and southwestvacation.com.  The current bids are $1,161 and $1,050 respectively.  I show Overture counts of 3,690 and 6,299 respectively.  I show high advertiser competition in Google for both.  Both names are in the travel industry where leads are highly valued and affiliates are always in demand.

I may up the bid on one of the two, but I don’t think I will be able to see either one of these names through to the end.  With that said, I am looking to see if anyone would be interested in partnering on these names.  Now I am not sure if that happens very often, but I figure it is worth asking.   The traffic alone is worthwhile, but with a little content development and SEO work these sites could really produce.  If anyone is interested then contact me via email (jasebud at yahoo.com).

Seth Godin Continues Discussing Domains

Posted under Domaining

I think Seth Godin may actually be on to us.  He has written his second post in as many days on the topic of domaining.  In his post, he mentions that we domainers used to buy, hold, then sell domains.  He has noticed a trend towards domainers buying, building, and holding.  You see what I mean?  He is on to us.  :)

To this end, there are still domainers who flip names, but Seth is right that several of us are taking the time to develop our properties so that we can charge more rent.  Domaining is basically the Internet’s version of Monopoly and some people have started to take notice of the game.  Now if someone would just give me Park Place and Boardwalk I would be all set.

Seth Godin Talks About Domains

Posted under Domaining

Seth Godin has written a post today about domains and has given his take on them.  It’s definitely worth a quick read.  According to Seth, he had the opportunity to buy some good domain names several years back and he let the opportunity slip past.  Haven’t we all?  I wish I had a little more money back in the day and I would own some good names today too.  Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve.  Oh, well.  At least in Seth’s case he should be able to make it on the proceeds from his books.  It seems like they have done well over the years.  ;)

Another Deleting Domain

Posted under Deleting Domains

Here is another domain that is pending deletion.  It is greenlumber.com.  I like the name, but can’t figure out exactly what I would do with it.  WordTracker shows 7 searches for the term “green lumber” in the last 24 hours, so it is not exactly a hot term.  I guess maybe this is just one of those domains that sounds good and that is about it.

What do you think?

Deleting Domains – October 29, 2007

Posted under Deleting Domains

I see a couple decent domains are deleting today.  I tried keeping my mouth shut about datingadvice.com last week and it ended up going to auction anyway.  I lost it to someone with deepter pockets.  Oh well.  There are more fish in the sea.

Here are a couple names expiring today that show some promise.

  • bodybasis.com – I am seeing a health and fitness related site.
  • campstuff.com – eCom site that sells camping gear.  Maybe a site that tracks different camps throughout the country and allows counselors to upload a list of suggested supplies.  Incoming campers can check the list to see what they need.

Here are some names that aren’t too bad if you are crazy enough to work the fringes of other people’s trademarks.

  • cbsdaytimesoaps.com
  • cbssoapopera.com
  • cbssoapoperas.com
  • ebaygolf.com

Good luck!

Deleting Domains – October 22, 2007

Posted under Deleting Domains & Domaining

I have culled through a quick list of domains deleting today and have found a couple good ones.  I will keep my mouth shut on most of them, but here is one for those of you who are interested.  PokerSpot.com deletes today.  That is a catchy little name that could probably make someone a nice return on a flip alone.  Take that same name and SEO it a little first and you will really have something worth selling.  Then again, you may just want to keep it for yourself.

I suggest you use SnapNames.com for picking up deleting domains.  I have had more success using their drop services that any of the others.

Domain Name Freebie – Lawn Service

Posted under Domain Name Plans

OK, I am going to throw out a freebie here and let someone swoop in an pick up a good name for their portfolio.  I don’t mow yards anymore, save for my own.  I also don’t live in Pittsburgh.  So with that in mind and since I am in a charitable mood, I will give away the following.  PittsburghLawnService.com is available and is definitely worth more than the $9.99 it will cost someone to register it at GoDaddy.

I have done several searches for “CityLawnService.com” where the city is one with a decent sized population and Pittsburgh is available.  The others are taken.  This site should become the authority on lawns for the Pittsburgh area.  Run an RSS feed on the weather.  Get familiar with the local growing zone.  Let people know what plants work and what don’t.  Offer an email newsletter that notifies its members when the time is right to seed, fertilize, aerate, plant, etc.

Prices Up at GoDaddy

Posted under Domaining News

I am sure most of you are aware of this already, but some of you may have missed it.  GoDaddy has raised the price of their domain names to $9.99 for a one-year registration.  This is still a lot less that what I paid for my first domain, so I’m not complaining.  For those of you who like discounts, do a search for “GoDaddy promo code” and you will find several options for getting those domains from GoDaddy for a lower price.  Happy domaining!

Cowboys.com – No Sign of Dallas

Posted under Domaining News

As of today (10/21/2007), cowboys.com is still not inhabited by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.  The Cowboys purchased the domain during October’s Moniker TRAFFIC auction, but they have yet to move in.  We’re waiting Cowboys.
